Pep Guardiola says that the battle for the 2023/24 Premier League title is more than a three-horse race.

Liverpool are top on 51 points from 22 games, with City five points back but with a game in hand.

Arsenal, 2022/23’s runners-up, are third on the same amount of points as City but having played 22 games like the Reds.

Guardiola was asked whether he thought that trio would be the main challengers in the closing months of the season but the boss stressed the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa, both three points behind the Blues and the Gunners, are also in the hunt.

“I think it’s not just three,” said the manager in his post-match press conference.

“Tottenham are still there, Aston Villa are still there. It can change.

“My feeling when I see Arsenal playing, they control many aspects of the game and it’s quite similar with Liverpool.

“When you see the games, every game they are better than their opponent.

“They can lose games, of course, but they are better.

“I know how strong they are but still we are there and we want to continue.

“We are there and the important thing is we are there.

“We did our job and now we recover and go to a place to face a team [Brentford] who last season we couldn’t take one point.

“Always for us they have been really tough. One game at a time and we’ll see what happens.”
