Pep Guardiola said the last-gasp 3-2 victory over Leeds United offered a big boost to his City team.

The Blues had lost our previous two games – a narrow 2-1 defeat at Newcastle in the Premier League and a 2-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Looking to get back on track in the top-flight, City started superbly and were 2-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol.

But the visitors hit back through Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha and it seemed the game would end all square.

However, talismanic ace Foden found a late, late winner to send the Etihad into delirium.

Guardiola was happy with the final result and stressed it would offer a fillip for his players heading into Fulham on Tuesday.

“We have to learn in different ways in the Premier League,” said the boss.

“Always the gameplan from Daniel [Farke] for me is exceptional. The gameplan is always 10 out of 10. And after there are many things that you cannot control.

“I would say [we are] not a team to win these type of games a lot. But you need it.

“When you have 89 minutes and we know it’s 10 minutes of extra time, I said in that moment ‘lets go’.

“Still we have a chance and before the goal we had two or three chances and good saves from the goalkeeper.

“In the end we were able to close it and get the three points and after two defeats it’s massively important for our mood.

“Next is Fulham, one of the toughest away games in our experiences.

“But it’s important to go second and we’ll see tomorrow what happens at Arsenal and Chelsea.

“But it’s important to be as close to the top as possible and to try to the end.”
