Pep Guardiola praised Erling Haaland for hitting a half century of Premier League goals in record-time before joking: ‘Just 50?’

Haaland’s milestone moment came today in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

It was fired home in his 48th game in the top-flight, which is 17 fewer than the man he surpassed, Andy Cole.

Guardiola spoke glowingly about his star striker and admitted that on another day he - and the team as a whole - could have had more than the one goal to show for the fine performance.

“Just 50? Incredible! It was really good. The action from Nathan was perfect. Erling, we know the quality he has.

“Some moments we have to find him a little bit more.

“The header from Julian’s cross was over, in front of the goal it’s a goal.

“We said to Jeremy [Doku], go to byline. You invite him to go too much.

“Erling shoots and keeper makes a good save but football is like that. Another day, Rodri in Stamford Bridge. Shoot, deflection, goal. Football is like that. We have to accept it.

“After this action we concede which was really well done because [Mohamed] Salah is excellent and [Trent] Alexander-Arnold with his finishing.

“We concede few against this team.”
