Across the illustrious tournament held in Australia and New Zealand, there have been a swathe of record crowds and immense outpourings of support for each nation.
City had a total of 14 representatives at the start of the competition, with each of those reaching the last-16 across seven national teams.
How can I watch the World Cup final?
Since then, six of Gareth Taylor’s players have secured passage into the final as England lock horns with Spain for the prestigious trophy on Sunday 20 August at 11:00 (UK).
Ellie Roebuck, Esme Morgan, Alex Greenwood, Laura Coombs, Chloe Kelly and Lauren Hemp have all impressively contributed on and off the pitch for the Lionesses and have helped them reach their first-ever Women’s World Cup final – just over a year after they lifted the European Championship.
And Guardiola has paid tribute to the past and present pioneers of the women’s game while also revealing his excitement to watch the showpiece on Sunday.
“It’s the greatest notice for the future of the women and girls generation of football. I think they have arrived to stay,” he explained.
“What they have done since the United States of America with many [players such as] Megan Rapinoe and important figures there demanding the position in world football that they deserve to be.
“So [I’ve] seen the stadiums in Australia full. I’ve seen the semi-final both Spain and especially Australia, a home and local team against England.
“It’s so nice. I can’t imagine the under-12s, 13, 14 ,15 years like they all the fantastic women and girls playing football and maybe they dream to play there. As much as teenagers do sports, whatever it is, above many bad things in life.
“It’s really good. They make an incredible contribution for the future of women’s football. Hopefully it will be a good final. Hopefully the best will win. I will be there Sunday morning at 11 watching the final.
“I support a few. I have a Spanish, Aitana Bonmati is a football player I am completely in love with her for the way she plays. I would say is like the woman Iniesta.
“I am pretty sure both teams will play good. What Sarina has done with the Euros at home winning and again a final which shows consistency.
“Personally, I am very pleased and hopefully step FIFA and all the federations can support.
“I see some actions, I say wow and I say they played really good. Control passes how they move. Have to have the strength. The rest played really good.”
