Pep Guardiola has hailed Julian Alvarez as a model pro, stressing the forward shows ‘good behaviour’ regardless of whether he’s playing or not.

Alvarez had a big influence on City’s fortunes across 2022/23, helping us secure the Treble but the World Cup winner wasn’t always in the First XI in the sky blue.

But, this season, he has been an ever present so far in the Premier League, starting all five games and scoring two goals as well as firing home a brace in our opening UEFA Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade in midweek.

Guardiola is a big fan of Alvarez on the pitch but also admires his attitude off it too.

“Always he has good behaviour, playing, not playing,” Guardiola told the press ahead of Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest.

“Being a world champion, always his behaviour on and off the pitch was the same.

“Of course, last season we had Ilkay [Gundogan] and Kevin [De Bruyne] sharp and in good moments and right now for the circumstances, for the injuries or for whatever reason he has had his minutes and gave us a lot of good things. That’s why he’s playing.

“He has to continue many games and there will be games that [he] will not play, [he has to] be ready for that and with a lot of games hopefully the players come back from injuries and everyone has to battle and fight for the best positions and play the games.”
