Pep Guardiola said that an absence of ‘freshness in the mind’ helped account for City’s goalless draw with Southampton.

The reigning champions were frustrated by a dogged and determined display from the visitors as we had to settle for what, remarkably, was our first draw since December 2020.

Our previous three home games had seen us score 16 goals and the boss pointed to a key factor behind today’s result.

“Today we didn’t have the freshness in our mind,” Guardiola reflected.

“I wouldn’t say in our legs, in our mind. It is a pity.

“They had four or five chances and didn’t shoot much. We were there and could not be more clinical in the final third.

“It has to happen from behind and behind was not good.”
