Pep Guardiola said the battle to secure Champions League qualification was in City’s hands in the wake of Saturday’s remarkable 5-2 win at home to Crystal Palace.

On a memorable afternoon at the Etihad, City fought back from finding ourselves 2-0 down inside 21 minutes to fashion a stunning and crucial comeback win.

Inspired by a man-of-the-match display from Kevin De Bruyne, City summoned up a superb response in the last hour to seal a crucial three points and move back up into fourth place in the Premier League table.

And, looking ahead to a defining final month of domestic action, the boss reiterated his faith and belief in his players to go on and secure our ticket into European football’s elite competition once again next term.

“It’s not perfect but it’s in our hands in the last six games to qualify for the UEFA Champions League,” the City boss said addressing the media after the Palace win.

“Now we have two days off. The players must mentally rest.

“Then we prepare for four or five days before we go to Goodison Park [next Saturday] and an important week with Aston Villa then the FA Cup semi-final.

“I think we will be ready. The players are exceptional. I’m not going to tell them they are not good, it’s the complete opposite.”
