Pep Guardiola has thanked Millwall for helping Manchester City avoid a tiring travel schedule by allowing us to use The Den as a training base ahead of our FA Cup semi-final with Liverpool.

City prepared for our last four clash at the Championship outfit’s stadium on Friday afternoon, having arrived in London on Thursday following our Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid the night before.

The Lions hospitality ensured City could fly directly to the capital from Spain, preventing the need for the squad to make an additional journey from Manchester to Wembley, something which Guardiola was particularly grateful for.

“It is exhausting to travel from Manchester to London,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“The people in the club tried to find somewhere close to the hotel for training. This is why we used Millwall.

“On behalf of Manchester City and me as a manager, we are more than grateful to Millwall to allow us to use this incredible pitch. It was in perfect condition.

“To be here in this room, dedicated to Paul Jiggins – a legend in journalism – who passed away a few weeks ago. It was a lovely day in London.

“Thank you, Millwall, to help us to train. We didn’t have a place. We owe them one. When they come to Manchester, we will of course allow them to train at our facilities.”
