Haaland’s second-half header broke the deadlock against Napoli in the opening game of our 2025/26 European campaign with City going to secure an impressive 2-0 win against the Italian champions with Jeremy Doku also on target.
It also saw Haaland become the quickest player to register 50 Champions League goals, the 25-year-old achieving the feat in just 49 games.
Quizzed about Haaland’s latest extraordinary exploits and what he could go onto achieve, Guardiola said anything was possible.
“What can I say? The numbers speak for itself and how lucky we are to have him. Just congratulate him,” Pep said in his post-match press conference.
“[Ruud] Van Nistelrooy and [Robert] Lewandowski but also the two monsters Cristiano [Ronaldo] and Lionel [Messi] in the past 20 years and Erling is there.
“In terms of goals he is unbelievable.”
Asked specifically if he felt the Norwegian could go on to break the all-time Champions League goal record of 140 held by Cristiano Ronaldo, Pep replied:” In that rhythm yeah.
“There’s no danger if he can play 10 more years. If he maintains this progression, absolutely.
“It’s a question of play a lot, experience, more important goals and his mentality as well.”
