Pep Guardiola was quick to praise the mentality of his City side after Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round win over Newcastle.

The boss made 10 changes to his lineup for the tie, with just Matheus Nunes retaining his place from Wednesday’s Premier League draw with Nottingham Forest.

That gave Guardiola the opportunity to utilise his squad and include players who haven’t featured as often in recent weeks.

When is the quarter-final draw?

He then saw his side run out 3-1 winners, coming from behind thanks to a Savinho goal before Omar Marmoush’s brace.

“It’s one of the best feelings,” said Guardiola in his post-match press conference.

“Look at the performance of Nathan [Ake] how reliable he is. All of them, there is not one single one that didn’t behave their best.

“Sometimes you don’t allow them to play many minutes and always you have that feeling.

“That’s why it’s nice to be in all the competitions because it’s nice for them to be involved.

“The only regret I have today is that we miss too many easy chances.

“That is the only thing we have to really improve because it’s one against one with the keeper, we have to try to finish better.”
