Pep Guardiola has offered his heartfelt best wishes to Newcastle United chief executive Darren Eales who is set to step down from his role due to illness.

Eales has been diagnosed with a chronic form of blood cancer, the club has confirmed.

Guardiola sent a message of support to the 52-year-old as he addressed the media at his pre-match press conference ahead of City’s trip to St James’ Park.

“We want to wish him the best recovery for him and his family,” said the boss.

“Hopefully he can go through and be healthy, which is the most important thing.”
