The 26-year-old was starting his first league game since the New Year’s Day win at Arsenal, coming back into the side alongside Oleksandr Zinchenko and Guardiola says we are approaching a period in the season when everyone will be required to play a part in our bid for success.

“Last season we always had an incredible, top squad in top form,” the Catalan explained.

“When it is three weeks from the end of the season and you are fighting for the titles, maybe you play with a regular starting XI, but in this period with a lot of games to play, to play three days ago and to play three days later we need everyone.

“They know it. They trained well. I have full confidence in Oleks and Nathan is one of the nicest players we have.

“One of the qualities we have as a team is the humanity we have and Nathan is the biggest expression of that. Everyone loves him massively.”
