Pep Guardiola has praised Bernardo Silva’s aggression and explained why he has been playing at left-back for City in recent games.

The Portuguese international has played at full-back in the victories over Aston Villa and Arsenal that saw us return to the top of the Premier League.

Guardiola joked after the 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium that his tactics were ‘horrible’ but he said it had nothing to do with Bernardo’s role.

Bernardo at full-back is more aggressive in the duels like Fabian Delph and Oleks Zinchenko,” he said in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

“I wanted to defend more with the wingers more inside, to provoke them to go one side. After five, 10, 15 minutes I felt I didn’t like it. We could not press intensely, we could not behave in this way and we changed.

“If it doesn’t work it comes back to previous games, Jack [Grealish] come back more wide.

“The players took responsibility, defending the bad moments and came back to who we are. Go almost man-to-man and more aggressive, give them less time to think and to play.

“It would be so incorrect to say [the comment was] for Bernardo, absolutely wrong.”
