Pep Guardiola says he will judge the Manchester City squad on what we’ve achieved throughout his time in charge rather than just the past few weeks.

We face Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night at 19:30 (UK) on the back of a difficult run of seven games in all competitions without a win.

With a number of injuries to key squad members, it’s been a difficult few weeks after a strong start to the season.

But after a trophy-laden period in his eight full seasons at the Etihad, Guardiola says he knows exactly what his players are capable of.

WAtCH TOGETHER ON CITY+ NOW

“It is not necessary to knock on the door to know that they can do it,” he said ahead of the clash with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

“Of course they want to play especially in defeat, they want to prove it. I have no doubts about that. They proved it I’m sorry.

“I know that the division is so short, in one month this position is there, but I have to make the spectrum wider in the last eight years.

“Maybe seven, eight or nine players have been together for eight or nine years. Over this spectrum, I’m not going to judge them for this month and a half.

“I know the real moment and they understand completely. I have to push them, I want to push them, but also I want to be closer than ever because what they have done is unique.

“I know we can do it. It’s difficult for many reasons. It is what it is, in that moment prove how good we are and how positive we are as a club.”
