Pep Guardiola has spoken of the positive influence of having Rodri in and around the City dressing room.

In the meantime, Rodri, who is back training on the grass, has been cheering on the team from the bench on matchdays with cameras catching him celebrating our last-gasp winner against Aston Villa in midweek.

And the manager says Rodri’s ebullient and enthusiastic attitude has been fantastic to welcome back into the fold.

“I love that. Always the guys who don’t play I allow them to be a manager,” he told journalists.

“The role of holding midfielder Rodri knows perfectly and he helped the guys there.

“It’s special when the guys who are injured can help the guys who are there because everyone wants to be in Europe next season.

“If you believe it’s just 11 players you’re wrong. I like it.”
