Pep Guardiola has spoken about the difficulty of qualifying from the Champions League group stages.

City currently sit top of Group C, with two wins from two matches thus far.

And victory in Tuesday’s game at home to Olympiakos would put us on the brink of qualification for the last-16.

But Guardiola rejects the idea there are any easy matches in Europe’s elite knock-out competition, and says if City get through to the next phase it will be a significant achievement.

“Yeah, its difficult in the group stages of the Champions League, people don’t believe it,” he said.

“Every game is hard. And with the pandemic, the situation is more uncertain.

“Today when you play away or at home, you have to do a good game to win. It’s a tricky competition.

“That’s why I am delighted with what we have done so far. This is the target.

“People say ‘oh it’s easy’ but everything can happen. Porto is a team that always has to win. Olympiakos the same. They have to win every single game. That mentality is difficult to play against.

“Focus on next game and tomorrow is a huge opportunity for us to make an incredible step.”
