Pep Guardiola says Oscar Bobb, just like every aspiring and ambitious football starlet in blue, needs to bide his time as he looks to make his name at City.

Bobb scored in the 3-2 win at Red Star Belgrade in our final Group G game and earned Player of the Match by UEFA.

The skilful winger has made the move up to the first team set-up this season and clocked up nine senior appearances across all competitions so far in 2023/24.

His obvious talent allied to the fact he’s come up through the ranks, just like Phil Foden and Rico Lewis, has created a buzz with fans.

But the boss insists time is on the side of the 20-year-old.

“It’s a question of time,” said Guardiola.

“People today want to do everything in two days. Be patient.

“We know exactly what we need to do for Oscar.

“He has to perform in the way he has performed and even better - and if he is patient he will have his time.

“Even for Phil [Foden] and Rico [Lewis] there is the reality when they arrived that they cannot play every game. It’s a question of time.”

While there’s still plenty of developing, learning, progressing to do for Bobb, Guardiola has spotted a key trait in him that he thinks will stand him in good stead alongside his more established colleagues in the dressing room.

“The most important thing for Oscar is that his mates see him like ‘we can rely on him, he is a player we can play with, not a problem’,” the boss added.

“That is a big achievement for a young player who arrives in the club: ‘Oh, this guy can play with us without a problem’.

“He has that. So that is the best.

“Be patient. It’s a question of time.”
