Pep Guardiola saluted the ‘incredible’ combination of substitutes Ferran Torres and Phil Foden which helped cement City’s fine 3-1 win over Porto in our Champions League opening Group C game.

The pair came off the bench with City 2-1 up against the Portuguese champions and then combined in style with Foden setting up his fellow 20-year-old for a stunning goal to seal the victory.

And as he reflected on an important win, the City boss was full of praise for his two youngsters and the manner of our triumphwhich saw us bounce back from going a goal behind.

“It was an incredible combination from Phil and Ferran,” said the boss.

“Ferran has an incredible sense of goal. The most satisfying thing was the way they came in. Always the people who come from the bench are so important.

“We did a perfect performance. It was an incredible performance from us against a really tough team. It is nice to win games suffering against a really good team. I am so pleased with the last two games. Short recovery and then we go to London (to play West Ham).”
