Pep Guardiola refused to look any further ahead than our Boxing Day clash with Newcastle after City booked our place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with a dominant 4-1 win at Arsenal.

The semi-final will be a one-legged affair in January but the final has been moved back to April – falling just two days before a date scheduled for the Champions League semi-final.

But quizzed at his post-match press conference as to whether he was concerned about a potential fixture build-up later in the season, the City boss was unequivocal in his reply.

“One step at a time, please. I don’t know where we will be in April,” Guardiola insisted.

“Now it is Newcastle and Everton, just two days difference.

“We have to see the draw. We are going to play to reach the final four years in a row.”
