Pep Guardiola says City’s ability to go deep in several competitions each year is ‘extraordinary’.

We remain in a tight title race with Arsenal with just three matches to go, having already won the Carabao Cup and qualified for the FA Cup final.

That Carabao success was Guardiola’s fifth League Cup trophy since arriving in England in 2016, setting a new record in English football history.

Next week’s Wembley showpiece with Chelsea will also be an unprecedented fourth successive FA Cup final, while we have lifted the Premier League in six of the nine complete seasons so far.

Asked in his press conference after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Brentford how he maintains the standards, Guardiola responded emphatically.

“From when you play the first game of the pre-season in Asia or America or wherever we have to try to win. Not choose competitions or games,” he said.

“All of us, the Chairman, Chief Executive, we have to do our best every game. It’s respect for our people and our job. We have to do it.

“I accept when we were out but it’s part of the job.

“Carabao Cup against League One team, I am hard on the players otherwise we will be in trouble. Be careful guys.

“It’s easy against Real Madrid or Arsenal, you know the team and supporters will be there. But those games will define us.

“That consistency in all competitions over 10 years is extraordinary.”
