Pep Guardiola says he is happy with how City have performed this season before the World Cup break despite ending with a 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

We are not in action again until the Carabao Cup fourth round clash with Liverpool in mid-December as the majority of our players head off to Qatar.

But with only Arsenal ahead of us at the top of the Premier League and the early stages of the cup competitions safely navigated, we have everything to play for in the second part of the season.

“It’s been good before today,” Guardiola said after City suffered their first home defeat of the season against the Bees.

“We go away with the feeling we lost so it’s always more difficult but this is the reality of this competition.

“We finished (first in the group) in the Champions League and Carabao Cup we are through and in the Premier League of course we are close to Arsenal that had been really good.

“Now we will be a little bit behind. It is what it is. But the second half of the season will dictate where we are.”

Arsenal, under former City coach Mikel Arteta lead the table, and Guardiola added that they deserved to be there.

“If you are first in the Premier League it is because you are the best,” he said.

“We will try and come back and afterwards and we will try to see.”
