Pep Guardiola believes City need tests like the one provided by Brighton on Wednesday to be at our best for the upcoming finals.

City secured the Premier League title last weekend, lifting the trophy at the Etihad Stadium after Arsenal’s defeat at Nottingham Forest had sealed it for us the previous day.

The hard work is not complete after a third league title in three seasons with Guardiola’s men still up for two more trophies.

After completing the Premier League season at Brentford this Sunday, we will play Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday 3 June before Inter are our opponents in the Champions League a week later.

With those games in mind, Guardiola was delighted with the challenges posed by Brighton.

“Games like tonight are very beneficial,” he said.

“We need these opponents to bring us to our maximum. It’s really good that these teams keep us at our levels.

“All of them, the team was there and that’s why I’m very, very pleased because I know how difficult it was and I don’t want us to drop our rhythm before the two finals. We had it against Chelsea and we need it again against Brentford.”
