A summer signing from Bournemouth, the Dutch international’s first season has hampered by injury with today’s appearance only his second of the year.
But the 26-year-old was a solid and assured presence alongside Aymeric Laporte at the heart of the City back line as City moved to within two points of being crowned champions.
For his part, Guardiola said he was delighted to see Ake’s display and backed him to play a key role between now and the end of the season.
“He was one of the reasons I am so personally satisfied,” said the City boss at his post-match press conference.

“I love the nice guys and he is one of the nicest but he struggled a lot this season with injuries.
“I am pleased for all of us. Defensively he was incredibly focused, defending the ball like it was his last in his life. We need him to maintain rhythm and no injuries.
“I am sure in the end of this season he will helps us a lot.”
