Pep Guardiola believes City can take plenty of positives from our second half display, despite losing out in the Community Shield final to Leicester.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s late penalty proved to be the difference at Wembley Stadium, with both sides guilty of squandering gilt-edged chances across the 90 minutes.

Despite the disappointment of defeat, Guardiola was full of praise for Brendan Rodgers’ side, who have consistently challenged for the European places since his arrival in 2019.

With this in mind, the boss feels our strong second half showing, in which we enjoyed the lions’ share of the chances, means there is plenty to be excited about ahead of the new campaign.

“In the last few years Leicester have always been there. Last season they were one game away from qualifying for the Champions League,” the boss pointed out.

“Since winning the Premier League they have always been there.

“They are a tough opponent, a good quality manager and exceptional players. That’s why today we were so good.

“From minute one of the second half when Sam (Edozie) took the ball at (Ricardo) Pereira, we were so good.

“Unfortunately we missed some chances and did not create much up front, but the game was there.

“At the beginning of the season you want to build the game. Now we have Spurs away and we have to get points as soon as possible.”
