City’s performance in our Carabao Cup final victory over Tottenham has set the team up in the best possible way ahead of a crucial couple of weeks, says Pep Guardiola.

Despite a dominant display at Wembley, it took until the 82nd minute for us to find the breakthrough, with Aymeric Laporte heading home the only goal of the game.

Our triumph over Tottenham secured a record-equalling fourth consecutive Carabao Cup title, and also saw us move level with Liverpool as the most successful side in the competition’s history with eight victories apiece.

While City will savour a memorable a poignant win, in which they were cheered on by 2,000 of our loyal supporters, attentions will already be firmly set on Wednesday’s crucial Champions League semi-final showdown against Paris Saint Germain.

But Guardiola is confident that claiming our first piece of silverware, and our defiant response to an FA Cup defeat to Chelsea, will give the team a boost ahead of our clash in the French capital.

He said: “We cannot deny it, one eye is always on Champions League.

“It’s the second time we arrive in the Champions League semi-finals… but with what happened with Chelsea, we thought the best way to arrive is there.

“We take every game seriously otherwise it’s impossible to win four Carabao Cup’s in a row.

“Now it’s time to rest and prepare for the semi-final against PSG.”

As well as our European commitments, City also took one step closer to reclaiming the Premier League title on Sunday afternoon, with second-placed Manchester United held to a goalless draw by Leeds.

And the City boss lifted the lid on the personal pride that he would feel if we are able to secure a third domestic title in four seasons.

He said: “We are two games away to try to win again the most important title of the season.

“The Premier League is the one I’m most proud of and we are so close.

“Marcelo Bielsa’s team made a good draw against (Manchester) United, we are 10 clear and need two victories.

“In this crazy schedule, between games against PSG we are going to try to win the first one against Crystal Palace.”
