Pep Guardiola has explained Kyle Walker’s absence from Manchester City’s 4-0 Premier League win away to Newcastle United.

The defender was ruled out of our midweek triumph over Leeds United due to fitness reasons, with his last appearance coming away to RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Walker’s return will provide a welcome boost to Guardiola‘s squad, with Premier League matches against Leicester, Brentford and Arsenal all to come within the next two weeks.

Asked about the 31-year-old’s omission from Sunday’s squad in his post-match press conference, the City boss reiterated that the tie had come slightly too soon in his recovery.

He reflected: “He didn’t feel good today. He didn’t feel good.

“The issue is now one or two days off then we will prepare for the toughest part (of the season).

“Leicester, Brentford and Arsenal, and then at the end of season we will look at our level.”
