Pep Guardiola says Matheus Nunes has showcased his sparkling ability during his recent run in City’s midfield.

The Portugal international has started back-to-back games for the Blues in all competitions, helping us to victories over Sparta Prague and Southampton.

Against the Czech outfit in the Champions League, the 26-year-old scored and assisted twice in the 5-0 success at the Etihad Stadium.

He then followed up his strong display by setting up Erling Haaland in our 1-0 triumph over the Saints which extended our unbeaten run in 2024/25 so far to 14 straight games.

And Guardiola believes Nunes’ offensive and defensive capabilities have been crucial to our recent wins.

“The minutes he didn’t get in the past, that’s the difference,” he explained.

“One goal and three assists in two games, and he went backwards helping Kova and Bernardo in their positions because he has incredible pace to help with those transitions.

“In the Etihad box, the space is minimal and they found the right way to do it.”
