Pep Guardiola praised the contribution of Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo.

The pair were both heavily involved in the goals that secured a 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Cancelo provided the cross for Bernardo to head home the opening goal, and the same combination then set up the second goal for Gabriel Jesus midway through the second half.

On Cancelo, he said: “He’s playing really well. Sometimes in that position we have to control the risk.

“He is a player with huge quality and his physicality is overwhelming - he would be ready to play tomorrow and his two assists were brilliant.

“He has to have the quality to put that ball and he did it perfectly.”

And asked if Bernardo was now matching the heights of the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaigns, he said: “He’s quite similar - last season maybe he dropped a bit, but every time he plays he is an exceptional player with exceptional quality.”

And of Bernardo‘s heading ability, he added: “He’s really good in the air! I’ve seen in the training sessions when you make an action for the header you have to use your body and he is strong and he is a good header, honestly.

“The goal was fantastic, the way he finished it. He has this special quality.”
