Pep Guardiola has specified exactly what Pep Lijnders has brought to Manchester City since arriving last summer.

Lijnders moved to the Etihad in 2025 after a long spell as Jurgen Klopp’s assistant with City’s regular title rivals Liverpool.

Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Anfield in the Premier League, Guardiola was asked in Friday’s press conference about Lijnders’ key attributes that make him such a sought-after coach.

Opta analysis of Liverpool

“His experience,” the boss began.

“I had a lot of info from other people about him, from who had been training and manage with him in Liverpool.

“I needed to refresh myself first and with people with incredible knowledge about the game and the Premier League and I love a lot of many things he did with Jurgen at Liverpool.

“We connected immediately and I am incredibly luckily from day one as a manager that all staff with us and me and Pep is one of them.”
