Pep Guardiola is delighted with Jack Grealish’s attitude and the influence he has had on the dressing room since his arrival at Manchester City.

A summer signing from Aston Villa, the midfielder has shown glimpses of his potential under Guardiola, who believes he has been a positive addition both on and off the pitch.

An injury sustained on international duty temporarily disrupted Grealish’s debut campaign and it remains to be seen whether he will recover in time to face his boyhood club on Wednesday evening.

The 25-year-old is back in training but will be assessed ahead of City’s trip to Villa Park and, should he be passed fit, he would be a welcome return for Guardiola, who has been pleased with the playmaker’s desire to learn and improve.

“He is top. He’s come with humility, and tries to learn and listen - so far, he is perfect,” the City boss said.

“As manager I want the best for Jack. I want to push him and demand more of him, I want more.

“That is my job, otherwise you can’t compete against the big clubs in England.

“If we bring in one player and no one leaves, the locker room is better than ever.

“So far, the people watching the games cannot say we are depressed, or we don’t want to run - it’s the opposite.”
