Despite still only being the tender age of 21, Lewis was trusted as a more senior and experienced player in City’s 10-1 FA Cup victory over Exeter last weekend.
Lewis showcased the versatility, energy and eye for goal he brings to Guardiola’s side when called upon to play in midfield or within City’s back line.
His relentless work ethic saw him score two goals at the Etihad on Saturday, where Lewis also got to achieve a boyhood dream when he was handed the captain’s armband by Rodrigo at half-time.

He’s waited patiently to be called upon by Guardiola, with the boss knowing that Lewis always maintains the highest standards on the pitch.
But looking to the long term Guardiola feels his ideal position will more likely be through a midfield role, rather than as a full-back, which is where City fans have become accustomed to seeing him play.
“[He’s a] midfield player,” Pep declared speaking in his press conference before our Carabao Cup semi-final trip to Newcastle, with the clash to take place from 20:00 (UK) on Tuesday 13 January.
“He is not a player to play right-back up and down [the touchline]. He likes to do it but when opponents allow you to go to pockets, he is just extraordinary.
“Extraordinary. Always, he’s free and is in the right spot, arriving in the box and has an ability to score goals. He always in the right spot, which is not easy to find small spaces.
“When the opponent allows you to do that, he’s just extraordinary.
“Always I have the feeling he should play more. He knows. I’d say it is weird to say because he didn’t play much lately, but I am a big admirer of Rico.
“I’m completed in love for the way he moves and the way I like to play football.”
