Pep Guardiola is delighted by how his players have knuckled down in training as they look to put our Manchester Derby loss behind them against Southampton.

City’s incredible 21-game winning run and 28-game unbeaten streak in all competitions was brought to an end at the weekend by Manchester United as we were dealt our first defeat since November.

But Guardiola’s men have immediately set their sights on putting that disappointment behind them as soon as possible, and the City boss has been impressed by the attitude he has seen since Sunday.

Although three points is far from a foregone conclusion against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, the players’ work ethic in preparation for the match has convinced Guardiola that they will bounce back from that disappointment.

He said: “What I see yesterday and today in the training session, I see the reaction of my players. The way they react, I have no doubts.

“Saying that, tomorrow they can lose. It can happen. But what I see in training, how they talk between themselves...the team is alive.

“We will move forward, we are in a good position.”

City are currently 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table as we approach the business end of the campaign.

But while we may sit in an impressive position with ten matches remaining, Guardiola insists there could still be plenty of twists and turns before May.

And to illustrate this point, the boss reflected on our position in the table when we faced Southampton in this season’s reverse fixture.

“When we played Southampton last time, we were behind them,” he said of our 1-0 victory on the south coast back in December.

“We were eight points behind Liverpool, look how much it has changed in three, four months.

“We focus on Southampton, our performance and do what we have to do to win.”
