Pep Guardiola says his current Manchester City squad is equipped with the right blend of youth and experience to continue fighting for major trophies.

It comes after the Catalan penned a two-year contract extension at the Club which will keep him past a decade in Manchester.

Of the 18 trophies won under his Etihad Stadium stewardship, seven have arrived across the past two years including the Treble triumph, Big Five success and an historic fourth straight Premier League.

Throughout that time, Guardiola has called upon trusted lieutenants while adding exciting young talent to his squad such as Jeremy Doku, Savinho, Josko Gvardiol and more.

And the boss believes a balanced squad is crucial to navigating the rigours of elite football.

“Players who are 33, 34, 35 play all the season and play incredibly well and help the team,” he explained.

“It’s not 23, 24, 25 - but you have experience and you have something the young players cannot have. You cannot have just young players or older players, you have to have a mix. And we have a mix.

“We have eight or nine or 10 with 21, 22. Josko [Gvardiol], Erling [Haaland], Phil [Foden], Rico [Lewis], Oscar [Bobb], Macca [James McAtee], Jeremy [Doku]. Savio. We have a lot of incredible top young players. The perfect age still to do it.”
