Guardiola took charge of his first game in English football against the Black Cats in August 2016, winning 2-1 in front of an excited Etihad crowd who were there to welcome the new manager.
What’s followed for Guardiola and City since is 18 major trophies in an era of Centurions, Fourmidables, Treble Winners, Champions of the World and History Makers.
Guardiola today reflected on that first City encounter as he gets set to face the Wearsiders on home soil once again in Saturday’s 15:00 (UK) kick-off.
CITY V SUNDERLAND | MATCH PREVIEW
“If you tell me to reflect on 10 years and what is my experience that I live here, I don’t have enough words to express what I live,” he told assembled media.
“In good moments but bad moments as well. Incredible people I have met here.
“It’s been an exceptional journey I would say. It’s all I can say. It’s been top.”
On whether he had the same levels of excitement now as he had that on that first foray into the Blues dugout, he added: “It’s a different one. We are not the same like 10 years ago, the first game in the Premier League at home with the expectations I had.
“It’s different. I am not saying it’s better or wise, it’s completely different, it’s normal.”
