Pep Guardiola says his City players will be ready to ‘suffer’ during Tuesday’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen.

His squad are in Denmark for the first leg of our Round of 16 tie at 20:00 (UK) tomorrow after starting the defence of our trophy by topping Group G with six wins from six.

Copenhagen reached this stage by finishing as runners-up in Group A ahead of Galatasaray and Manchester United.

Since then, Jacob Neestrup’s side have been on a long winter break and played just six friendlies.

City last came up against Copenhagen in 2022/23 when we played out a 0-0 draw in the Danish capital.

Ake on City’s hunger for silverware

His memories of that game and his own experiences as a player have taught the Catalan to expect a fierce atmosphere at the Parken Stadium.

“I have been here with the national team against Denmark and it is so tough, the crowd are so close and imagine two months without games, the crowd will want to be at the football,” he said.

“I have huge respect. I said to the players this morning you have to prepare mentally and be ready to suffer.

“It will be a tight, tight game 100% - I feel it - and normally my guts don’t lie to me!”
