Pep Guardiola says Manchester City have never had an easy game against Brentford throughout his time at the Club.

The Bees are the visitors at the Etihad Stadium at 15:00 (UK) as we return from the international break aiming to pick up where we left off after winning our three opening Premier League games.

But the City boss has always spoken about the impressive way that Thomas Frank sets his sides up and is expecting another tough test.

“I don’t remember against Thomas Frank – a person I admire unbelievably - an easy game against Brentford,” Guardiola said.

“Since they’ve been promoted I don’t remember it. Always it’s been tough here and there. They’ve changed their shape a little bit and I had the feeling they play a little more in a style like when they were in the Championship.

“With [Ivan] Toney more direct and they can do it strong and fast players up front. They have a good process in the build up. Man-to-man so aggressive. They are so well-organised in the transitions and they are a complete team.”

Toney moved on in the summer but remains the last opponent to score a winning goal at the Etihad Stadium with City unbeaten at home over 90 minutes since Brentford won 2-1 in November 2022 – a run that Guardiola was unaware of.

“So the last time we lost here was against Brentford?” he asked.

“You should have avoided [mentioning] that [statistic]. It shows how good we have done it if for nearly two years we haven’t lost. That’s good.”
