City won both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final after a defeat at St James’ Park in the Premier League before following up with a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium in the return top-flight fixture.
City reached the fifth round of the FA Cup with victories over Exeter City and Salford City, while Newcastle are in the last-16 thanks to defeats of Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
