Pep Guardiola has hailed Manchester City’s Academy after the debut of Nico O’Reilly for England this past international break.

O’Reilly earned his first-ever senior Three Lions cap during the 2026 World Cup qualifier at home to Serbia.

The 20-year old was named in the starting XI by boss Thomas Tuchel and followed it up with another start in the away triumph over Albania.

The landmark moment saw O’Reilly become the latest member of City’s famed Academy to be afforded a full international debut and Guardiola was ebullient in his praise of our famed youth set-up as well as the player himself.

“I’m happy for him,” said the boss.

“Hopefully he can continue and be humble. Hopefully he will not be confused, sometimes [that can happen] at that age when you reach the highest level and play with your country. Hopefully he can be stable.

“I’m absolutely delighted for the Academy and all the people who work with him from a little boy. The managers, the scouts.

“All the people involved in his development to reach the national team is a big, big compliment.”
