Pep Guardiola revealed why Erling Haaland was unable to feature in Wednesday’s Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid.

City were beaten 3-1 at the Bernabeu in the second leg of our play-off clash with the defending European champions.

The result sealed a 6-3 aggregate victory for Caro Ancelotti’s side to send the Spanish side through to the last 16.

City had kicked off in Madrid with Haaland named on the bench.

And addressing the media at his post-match press conference, the City boss revealed that the striker had reported he was still feeling the effects of the knock that had forced him off against Newcastle last Saturday.

“Erling trained yesterday. I believe the images we have done are fine, but he has discomfort walking and for example on stairs,” the boss revealed.

“We spoke yesterday, and this morning and he said he didn’t feel good, didn’t feel ready.”
