Pep Guardiola says Mateo Kovacic’s absence has been a big miss this season.

Our Croatian midfielder has made just two appearances this campaign and hasn’t played since our 2-0 win at Villarreal last October.

“I miss him a lot, his ability in short passes and when we play without proper wingers, with a lot of players inside,” said Guardiola.

“He is magnificent to one v one and attack the next line. Last game he played was in Fulham and he made a surgery and he was not well.

“He feels good compared to first surgery and hopefully he can help us in last part of the season.

“To have continuity it will take time. As much as you can select minutes, he is a special player and special mentality. He’s so brave and so good.

“First for his health and life to play football again. He’s important and we miss him a lot.”
