Pep Guardiola is pleased with the development of Tommy Doyle and James McAtee during their ongoing season-long loan at Sheffield United.

The pair have been pivotal in the Blades’ form that sees them second in the Championship and on the verge of a return to the Premier League.

However, they will not be available for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final due to an FA rule that forbids loan players from facing their parent clubs in the competition.

While Guardiola is happy with how the pair have adapted to this season’s challenges, he is disappointed they won’t be able to experience a Wembley semi-final.

“It’s really good,” said Guardiola on how the youngsters have played this year.

Tommy Doyle since the beginning he played, Macca struggled a little in the beginning. Playing a lot of games, Championship is a good test for yourself. We are delighted.

“Unfortunately they can’t play. Loan players to get experience and what better experience for City is to play FA Cup semi-final. Would be incredible for their development. Rule is the rule.”
