Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on his counterpart Thomas Tuchel ahead of Tuesday evening's Champions League first leg match up with Bayern Munich.

City will welcome the Bundesliga champions to the Etihad Stadium for a 20:00 (UK) kick-off.

We’re looking to reach the semi-finals of Europe’s elite competition for a third successive season, but must first overcome a familiar adversary.

Indeed, former Chelsea manager Tuchel got the better of City in our last Champions League meeting, which came in the 2021 final.

However, Pep came out on top in the following two matchups, beating the London side 1-0 home and away en route to lifting the Premier League title last season.

The German left Stamford Bridge in September 2022 before being appointed Bayern boss in March of this year.

And Pep explained that he has a lot of respect for Tuchel and all he has achieved as a manager in various countries.

“Tuchel is one of the best managers for sure and has done really well everywhere,” the boss added.

“Champions League, in Paris and England. It will be a pleasure to see him again.

“I congratulated him [after the Champions League final].

“It happens. You lose games and you win games, you lose games, we lost it. We are here again, we try it again.”
