Pep Guardiola says the lack of preparation time is no excuse for his team ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

City face Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday evening knowing victory will take us to Friday’s final.

Having already played five times since the start of December, there has been limited opportunity for Guardiola to ready his side for the test of a team we have never previously faced in a competitive fixture.

Meanwhile, Urawa Reds have been able to focus entirely on the competition since the end of their domestic season last month.

However, Guardiola says his team are familiar with this demanding routine.

“We are used to this - we don’t have time to recover,” he stated.

“We would want longer to recover but there is no chance, we go forward and do our best. They are fresh because their season ended but it is what it is.

“We started our season later than other Premier League teams, when you play a lot of games you have to adapt. Believe me I will not complain about being here - it’s an honour to be able to play against Urawa.”
