Pep Guardiola hailed matchwinner Rayan Cherki following his impact in our 2-1 victory at Nottingham Forest.

City’s number 10 provided the assist for the opener from Tijjani Reijnders as well as scoring the 83rd minute winner at the City Ground.

Cherki moved joint top of the assists table with his seventh of the season and he has lit up the Premier League with his flair and style following his summer move from Lyon.

And the boss believes the sky is the limit for the Frenchman and added that the team must get him the ball higher up the pitch.

“Always when we sign a player we expect the best, it’s true, but in reality he made an incredible assist and winning goal,” Guardiola said.

“I always had that feeling from day one, some moments I shout at him, the others I want to kiss him. I have that ambivalent feeling with him, but I have to allow him to express his incredible talent.

“We have to play better from the back so he can get more balls in those positions.

“First half we had too many players behind the ball and less in advanced positions in the pockets. The second half was a little bit better, even though it was a tight game.

“They brought this type of game, you press really good, but they play a long ball and Igor [Jesus] wins the ball, always they come the wingers and [Morgan] Gibbs-White for the second ball.

“You need the strength because they do it really well. Sean [Dyche] again has created a really good team in that.”
