Pep Guardiola believes Savinho bagging his debut goal for City will boost his confidence.

The 20-year-old opened the scoring in our 2-0 victory over Leicester City in our final game of 2024 and Guardiola says he has been happy with the Brazilian’s performances overall since joining us in the summer from Girona.

But the manager also insisted he expects even more progress from the tricky winger as 2025 begins with a home clash against West Ham on Saturday.

“Yeah I think it will help,” the boss said of Savinho’s first goal for the Blues.

CITY V WEST HAM | MATCH PREVIEW

“He had other chances but he didn’t score. Pretty sure he will give us a good moment.

“He’s so young and in his first season in England.

“I think he played really good when he played. But he’s so young and many things to improve.”

Guardiola also stressed that the result against the Foxes had boosted mood at the CFA ahead of the Hammers encounter, even if the performance wasn’t at a premium level.

“Just a game, we didn’t play at our best level. We won because football sometimes is like that,” he added.

“In other games we played better and didn’t win but the result is good for the mood obviously.

“We are away from our best. But, of course, we have an opportunity against West Ham to make another victory which will help with our future.”
