Pep Guardiola says he maintains his passion for football by striving to improve his team every season.

The Catalan has won 11 major trophies since arriving at City in 2016 after highly successful eras with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

This weekend he enters his seventh campaign at the Etihad Stadium off the back of a fourth Premier League title.

City travel to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon to begin the defence of our trophy.

Asked what motivates him, Guardiola said: “Improve the team and playing better - this is the main thing. I am sad because we lost the Community Shield but especially because we don’t play as good as we can.

“The only thing I am here for is to make the team play better. I want to be on the touchline thinking I like this. Consequence is we win or lose.

“We are going to lose Premier Leagues sooner or later - nothing is eternal - not even this team that has done so much good things in the last year. We can improve.

“I am not here to say I need to win the Premier League or what will happen in other trophies.

“I know losing is part of football - more normal than winning. The important thing is stability as a club.”
