Pep Guardiola is relishing the battle for places on the sky blue wings for the 2023/24 season.

Guardiola has good options across both the right and left flank, with the likes of Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden giving him food for thought.

The boss dismissed the idea of a Doku v Grealish fight to start on the left side, insisting that Foden is in the mix, too.

He stressed that those who play out wide each week will be those who have impressed him most in training pre-game.

On Grealish v Doku, he said: “Jeremy can play on the right as well.

“Who is going to play more is who is performing better.

“Phil Foden can play left too. They compete with Foden as well.

“The guys who compete better will have more chances to play. It has always been like that.”

Guardiola also spoke of his delight at the impact made by his new signings.

Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, Doku and Matheus Nunes all joined us in the summer and the manager has been pleased with what he’s seen of them so far.

“More than impressed with the new ones,” said the boss.

“The level they are playing is high level. All of them.”
