Pep Guardiola says the way Matheus Nunes acclimatised to the Premier League at Wolves was one of the reason that City signed the midfielder.

The Portuguese international was our fourth signing of the summer when he joined from Saturday’s opponents Wolves at the beginning of September.

Only 12 months earlier, Nunes moved to Molineux from Portuguese giants Sporting after quickly impressing for the Leoes.

Moving from a Club that regularly competes for league titles to a side that was fighting for survival last season could have been difficult.

But Guardiola says he was impressed by his attitude and spoke to ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui about his qualities.

“He came from Sporting who are always on top and after that being there, he behaved good,” the City boss said. “Sometimes it’s a new reality, the level he played.

“We know him a little bit from Sporting and before contacting him, we spoke with several players who know him, Julen as well and asked what positions he play. He has adapted well.”
