Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City’s battling victory over Everton will stand his players in good stead for the rest of the season.

The boss feels the way in which his squad overcame what proved to be a stern test was the most important aspect of our win at Goodison Park.

Guardiola and his players celebrated in front of the away end at full-time after Phil Foden’s 82nd minute strike sealed all three points, with the Catalan admitting the emotion displayed was a reaction to successfully navigating a difficult challenge.

The City manager acknowledged his side struggled in spells on Merseyside, but believes that will prepare the team well for what is to come.

“The celebrations were because we knew how difficult it would be,” he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of our FA Cup tie against Peterborough United.

“It was and a good example of what it will be like for the last 11 games. Every game will be quite similar.

“We will have to struggle, to suffer and we were able to face it. This is the most important thing.”
