What a journey for Phil Foden at Manchester City – and we chronicle it here with our wing wonder.
Taking a trip around his beloved Etihad Stadium shortly after signing his new three-year contract extension, Foden talks us through his major moments on home soil.
He reveals his regular pre-match treat when he was a kid watching his heroes – pie and chips with a hot chocolate!
He talks about the elation of walking out as a seven-year-old alongside Martin Petrov as mascot for our 1-0 win over Sunderland way back in November 2007.
And he tells us how he regularly snapped up player gloves, like those of Mario Balotelli, at full-time after games as a ball boy.
That, of course, was his years following City. Now we are loving his years starring for City.
The 22-year-old discusses his debut in the Champions League game against Feyenoord in 2017 – 10 years after his appearance as a mascot - and how he almost didn’t get the instructions he needed from Pep Guardiola’s backroom team!
He talks about being part of the squad for the Premier League title win later that season and he chats about his first goal at the Etihad, which came in a 7-0 FA Cup third round win over Rotherham in January 2019.
On to the present day and the academy graduate reminisces about his hat-trick against Manchester United and the cheeky nickname given to him in the aftermath by good friend, Bernardo Silva.
While he enjoys talking about what’s happened so far, he tells us he’s focused on what’s still to come in the sky blue.
